Jesus and Cicero Essay

Erring is one thing individuals feel that when individuals do bite the dust, they ought to consequently go to the black market, or heck, because of their evil activities. In the Aeneid, book number six, Virgil portrays a spot where these individuals go when they die on earth. At the point when these individuals get to the black market, they are decided by their activities and rebuffed relying upon its seriousness. Virgil gives us that there is undoubtedly an existence in the wake of death, much the same as Jesus did. Be that as it may, when it came to heathens, Jesus excused individuals who have trespassed in light of the fact that he needs individuals to get familiar with pardoning. Additionally he needs individuals to realize that no one is great, and that with the goal for God to pardon one’s sins, the person must excuse others. With regards to sin both Virgil and Jesus concur that there is a the hereafter; yet Virgil and Jesus’ thought of wrongdoing contrast with re gards to disciplines and passing judgment on individuals as people. Virgil shows his perusers that the black market is a position of discipline and remorselessness. At the point when delinquents pass on, they are sent to the black market to concede their bad behaviors and face the ramifications for their activities. In the black market there is a man named Rhadamanthus who tunes in to the heathens and sentences them to various punishments dependent on what they did. Once Rhadmanthus tunes in to the sinner’s story, he sentences them to various segments of the black market. The black market contains various segments that depend on levels of seriousness. The more prominent the transgression somebody submits, the more noteworthy the discipline that that individual will get. For instance, in the 6th book of the Aeneid, Virgil says that, â€Å"Here come the individuals who as long as life stayed held siblings contemptuous, beat their folks, bamboozled poor men subject to them; likewise the individuals who embraced their recently discovered wealth to themselves and set nothing aside for family members An extraordinary group, this-then men murde red for infidelity, men who took arms in war against their right, not scrupling to sell out their lords† (181:813-820). In this statement, Virgil gives instances of people’s sins that have gone to the Underworld for it. In the Aeneid, Virgil gives perusers that individuals who sin will be rebuffed and sent to the black market regardless of what sin they submit. He additionally shows that there is an existence in the wake of death, however he doesn't talk about the possibility of paradise and that all spirits will make a trip to the black market to confront the outcomes. Like Virgil, Jesus believes in the hereafter, however he examines the possibility of both paradise and damnation. He accepts that once incredible, spirits are lifted out of the human body and are either brought to paradise or damnation. Jesus instructed that individuals will be set into paradise or damnation dependent on their temperance and following the lessons of God. Jesus likewise puts together it with respect to individuals who either open or close up their heart for other people. A case of the impression of the heart and self originates from the Gospel of Luke. In the gospel it says that there was a rich man who had a poor man, named Lazarus, living outside his entryway. The poor man would ask to eat the food that would tumble off the rich man’s table and he required help. When the two men kicked the bucket, poor people man was lifted by blessed messengers to Abraham’s chest, while the rich man was covered in Hades being tormented. At the point when the rich man called to Abraham for help he stated, â€Å"Son recollect that you in the course of your life got your beneficial things, and Lazarus in like way malicious things; yet now he is console here, and you are in anguish† (Luke 16:25-26). He is stating that individuals who are poor are needing help, however there were individuals who were wealthier that didn’t open up their souls for other people. In this way, those individuals of riches would endure in existence in the wake of death not at all like those were poor. The individuals who were poor would live an increasingly agreeable path in the hereafter. Despite the fact that Virgil and Jesus had faith in the great beyon d, they contrasted when it went to the genuine thought of delinquents. Virgil felt that all individuals would go to the black market and be decided by Rhadamanthus to see their destiny in the great beyond. He never talked about the possibility of paradise, and he would verify disciplines for various individuals. In contrast to Virgil, Jesus took a gander at miscreants in an alternate manner. Rather than rebuffing and rewarding miscreants in an unexpected way, Jesus would excuse the individuals who have trespassed. A case of Jesus excusing a miscreant is in the Gospel of John. It discusses individuals assembling around the sanctuary with a lady who submitted infidelity. The recorders and Pharisees carried the lady to Jesus to test and see what he would do to her. The explanation the individuals needed to test Jesus in light of the fact that in the Law of Moses, it expresses that the individual who submits infidelity will be stoned. The exceptional piece of the story is when Jesus says, â€Å"Let him who is without wrongdoing among you be the first to toss a stone at her† (John8:7). As he said this, everybody stepped back individually and Jesus was disregarded with the miscreant. When he was with her without anyone else he stated, â€Å"Woman, where right? Has nobody censured you?† She said,† No one Lord† And Jesus stated, â€Å"Neither do I denounce you; go, and don't sin again† (John8:10-11). Jesus is stating that individuals can't pass judgment or rebuff a delinquent if individuals themselves have trespassed before previously. Additionally, Jesus trains that wrongdoings will be pardoned by the Lord insofar as individuals gain from their missteps and shortcomings. When looking at Virgil and Jesus, the two of them have to some degree, comparable musings of having an existence in the wake of death, yet they vary significantly with people’s results. Virgil has confidence in specific sentences and censures. Jesus puts stock in the possibility of kindness with heathens as long as they become familiar with their exercise for what's to come. The two of them comprehend that erring is a terrible thing, however how one arrangements with transgression is the genuine test. The genuine inquiry is,† If somebody submits sin against you, what will you do in response to it?†

Understanding Collectivist Cultures

Understanding Collectivist Cultures Theories Social Psychology Print Understanding Collectivist Cultures How Culture Can Influence Behavior By Kendra Cherry facebook twitter Kendra Cherry, MS, is an author, educational consultant, and speaker focused on helping students learn about psychology. In such cultures, relationships with other members of the group and the interconnectedness between people play a central role in each persons identity. Cultures in Asia, Central America, South America, and Africa tend to be more collectivistic. Collectivistic Culture Traits A few common traits of collectivistic cultures include: Social rules focus on promoting selflessness and putting the community needs ahead of individual needsWorking as a group and supporting others is essentialPeople are encouraged to do whats best for societyFamilies and communities have a central roleGreater emphasis on common goals over individual pursuits In collectivistic cultures, people are considered  good if they are generous, helpful, dependable, and attentive  to the needs of others. This contrasts with individualistic cultures that often place a greater emphasis on characteristics such as assertiveness and independence. A few countries that are considered collectivistic include Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Venezuela, Guatemala, Indonesia, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, and India. How Collectivist Cultures Differ Collectivist cultures are usually contrasted with individualistic cultures. Collectivism stresses the importance of the community, while individualism is focused on the rights and concerns of each person. Where unity and selflessness are valued traits in collectivist cultures, independence and personal identity are highly stressed in individualistic cultures. These cultural differences are pervasive and can influence many aspects of how society functions. How people shop, dress, learn, and conduct business can all be influenced by whether they are from a collectivist or individualist culture. For example, workers who live in a collectivist culture might strive to sacrifice their own happiness for the greater good of the group. Those from individualistic cultures, on the other hand, may feel that their own well-being and goals carry greater weight. Influence on Behavior Cross-cultural psychologists study how these cultural differences impact various aspects of behavior. Self-Perceptions Culture influences how people behave, as well as their  self-concept.?? Those in individualistic cultures might describe themselves in terms of personality traits and characteristics (e.g., I am smart, funny, athletic, and kind). Those from collectivist cultures, on the other hand, would more likely describe themselves in terms of their social relationships and roles (e.g., I am a good son, brother,  and friend). Relationships Research in 2017 found that collectivist cultures are also associated with low relational mobility, a term to describe how many opportunities individuals in a society have in forming relationships with people of their choosing.?? Low relational mobility means that the relationships people have are stable, strong,  and long-lasting. These relationships are usually formed due to factors such as family and geographical area rather than personal choice. In a collectivist culture, its difficult to build relationships with new people, partly because its generally more difficult to meet them. Strangers are more likely to remain strangers to those from a collectivistic culture than they would be to people from individualistic cultures. Maintaining harmony within interpersonal relationships is of utmost importance in a collectivistic culture. This is likely because these relationships are so long-lasting and extremely difficult to change, so failing to keep the peace can mean long-term unhappiness for everyone involved. Paradoxically, this means that people in individualistic cultures devote more effort and energy toward actively maintaining close relationships, often through increased self-disclosure and greater intimacy. This can be explained by the fact that unlike collectivist cultures where stable relationships are more expected, relationships in individualistic cultures tend to be more fraught and fragile, so people must make a greater effort to maintain these relationships. Conformity Cultural differences also influence the motivation to either stand out or fit in with the rest of the group.?? In one experiment, participants from American and Japanese cultures were asked to select a pen. Most of the pens were the same color, with a few options in different colors. Most American participants chose the rarer colored pens. The Japanese participants, on the other hand, were much more likely to choose the most common colored pen, even though they preferred the minority pens. Another reason for this may have been because, coming from a collectivistic culture, the Japanese participants instinctively valued interpersonal harmony above personal preference and thus chose the unoffensive behavior of leaving the rarer pens for others who might want them. Why Do People Conform? Social Anxiety Research in 2010 showed that collectivistic cultures are more accepting of socially reticent behaviors and displayed higher levels of social anxiety in comparison to individualistic cultures.?? However, the research also found that it may not be collectivist values alone that contributed to social anxiety and acceptance of social reticence. Latin American countries, for example, display lower levels of social anxiety than do East Asian countries. Researchers suggest that this may be due to an emphasis on group harmony and a higher value on qualities such as sociabilityâ€"factors that may help decrease social anxietyâ€"in Latin American cultures.?? Social Support When people in collectivist cultures are faced with stress, they are less likely than those in individualistic cultures to talk about their problems with loved ones. Research from 2010 suggests that people from collectivist cultures are more reluctant to discuss stressors with people they are close to out of concern for potentially negative relational consequences.  Instead, people often seek out what is known as implicit social support, which involves spending time with supportive people without actually addressing the source of the stress.?? Why Social Support Is So Important

An excerpt from Theodore Roosevelt’s Autobiography of 1913, this essay covers Roosevelt’s ideas and thoughts on the nature of Executive Powers. It speaks about how he challenged the limitation set on Presidential power in domestic policy and how he broadened the use of such power, thereby transforming the office of the President. The primary source was written several years after Roosevelt left the office of the President in the year 1913. He had come into the Presidency after the death of William McKinley in the year 1901 during the Progressive Era. It was during this era that Americans sought reforms through government intervention in the economy (ranging from regulating businesses, reviving morals, protecting consumers to tax reforms) that this piece was written. An era marked by new concepts of the purposes functions of the federal government. 1913 was a particularly significant year; a year in which the 16th Amendment (which gave the federal government authority to establish income tax) and the 17th Amendment (which required direct election of US Senators by voters) were ratified. It was also the year in which Congress passed the Federal Reserve Act that regulated banking in the United States.
